Welcome to Thomas E. Bowser, M.D. We hope to provide convenient outpatient consultations and neurodiagnostic testing to the Colorado Springs area.

As consultants, patients are traditionally referred from their family or general physicians. Medical and Surgical specialists as well as Urgent Care facilities and Hospital Emergency Departments may also refer. Our office accepts nearly all insurance plans.

All patient appointments are with Dr. Bowser. Electromyography (EMG/NCV) testing is performed and immediately interpreted by Dr. Bowser. Consultation letters and test results are sent to the referring physician the same day. Electroencephalogram (EEG) testing is performed by an EEG technologist and interpreted by Dr. Bowser.

EMG/NCV is used for the diagnosis of back and neck pain, arm or leg pain, extremity numbness or weakness, and peripheral nerve or muscle disorders. The EMG/NC test is a two part test involving electrical stimulation of the peripheral nerves (NCV) and needle examination of the muscles (EMG). The test can be performed on patients taking blood thinners or who have pacemaker devices. Avoid creams or lotions on the skin the day of the test. The procedure takes 30-45 minutes. EMG/NCV can be ordered alone or performed with a consultation.

EEG is used to help in the diagnosis of memory loss, Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, seizures, epilepsy, and passing out. An EEG involves attaching electrodes to the scalp and forehead. The electrodes are attached with paste and tape, NO needles as they did years ago. The patient simply reclines in a chair with his or her eyes closed. Sleeping during the procedure is encouraged. Some EEG test may require less than 4 hours of sleep the night before. Rapid breathing (Hyperventilation) and an electrical strobe (Photic Stimulation) may be done during the test. Clean, dry hair without hair products is required. The test takes approximately 45-60 minutes.
